How to Change Motorcycle Engine Oil
Materials Needed:
- New engine oil (specific to your motorcycle type)
- Oil filter (if necessary)
- Oil pan or container
- Funnel
- Wrench
- Clean cloth
Steps:
Prepare the Motorcycle.
Make sure the motorcycle is parked on a flat surface. Let the engine cool down if it was running, as this will prevent burns and make oil draining easier.Locate the Drain Plug.
Find the engine oil drain plug underneath the engine. This is typically located on the bottom or side of the engine case.Place the Oil Pan.
Put an oil pan or container below the drain plug to catch the old oil as it drains.Remove the Drain Plug.
Use a wrench to loosen the drain plug, then remove it by hand. Allow all the old oil to drain completely into the pan.Replace the Oil Filter (if necessary).
If your motorcycle’s oil filter needs to be replaced, locate and remove it. Install the new oil filter by screwing it in place according to the manufacturer’s instructions.Reinstall the Drain Plug.
Once the oil has drained completely, replace the drain plug and tighten it securely with a wrench.Add New Engine Oil.
Insert a funnel into the oil fill hole and pour in the new engine oil gradually. Check the level with the dipstick to ensure it’s at the recommended level.Check for Leaks.
Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes, then check around the drain plug and oil filter for any leaks. If there are no leaks, turn off the engine.Dispose of the Used Oil Properly.
Pour the used oil into a sealed container and take it to a recycling center or an auto shop that accepts used oil.
